Carl-Erik Södling (1819 -1884) is a fascinating original in Swedish folk music history. He was a skilled collector of songs with an eye for the small details in the music. Södling was active as music and gymnastics director in Västervik and for a period was an organist in Buenos Aires. Södling had grandiose ideas about the cultural-historical significance of Swedish folk music in Europe and South America. He was affiliated with the Royal Academy of Music, but his ideas were too wild to be published.
