For American engineer Stephen Mitchell (Howard Duff), his long involvement with a British satellite launch didn't sit well with his bored and unfaithful wife Vanessa (Cecile Chevreau). When the craft failed to reach maximum altitude, a chilling theory circulated as to why-added ballast from the bodies of the now-vanished Vanessa and her lover-and Mitchell joined an investigative flight in order to prove his innocence.
