The RS2 Emerger is one of the most effective and essential tailwater fly patterns ever developed. Originally designed as a small emerging midge imitation, the RS2 has proven itself as a deadly pattern for selective trout feeding just below or within the surface film.

Its sparse profile, subtle flash, and natural movement imitate emerging midges, mayflies, and other small aquatic insects during vulnerable transitional stages. While often thought of strictly as an emerger, the RS2 is incredibly versatile and can also be fished as a shallow nymph or crippled adult imitation.

Especially productive in technical tailwaters, spring creeks, and slow-moving water where trout key in on tiny emerging insects.

Fishing Tips

Fish near the surface in the film or just below it using a drag-free drift. Excellent as a dropper behind dry flies, beneath small indicators, or suspended in slow tailwater currents where trout are feeding selectively on emerging insects.
