Little was left of the union between volatile Santiago dancer Ema (Mariana Di Girolamo) and her choreographer husband Gastn (Gael Garca Bernal) after disturbing behavior on the part of their adoptive son Polo (Cristin Surez) caused them to return the boy to the system.
