About the Stone

Spectrolite is labradorite, a plagioclase feldspar, at its finest: the name was given to material found at Ylämaa, Finland in the 1940s that flashes the whole spectrum — red, orange, violet and green as well as the usual blue and gold. The flash is labradorescence, light interfering between microscopic layers inside the crystal.

Wearing & Care

Rings take more knocks than any other piece of jewelry: put it on last, after lotion and perfume, and take it off for hand-washing, housework, gardening, the gym, swimming and sleep. Sterling silver tarnishes slowly in air; a silver polishing cloth keeps it bright. Hard enough for daily wear, but labradorite has two directions of cleavage and a sharp knock can split it along a flat plane — do not drop it, and store it apart from harder stones. Protect the polish, because the flash depends on it: a soft damp cloth, no ultrasonic, no salt, no soaking. Cleanse it with moonlight. US sizes. Not sure of yours?
